Few words carry as much weight or as much fear as “cancer.” In his moving novel “Tumor,” author Ira D. Wasserman transforms that devastating diagnosis into a compelling narrative about one man's turbulent fight to survive. Endorsed by the Writer's Guild of America (WGA), this work will now be presented to key decision- makers for its adaptation potential as a story of resilience, medical discovery, and the human spirit under siege.
At the center of the book is David Wesner, a 40-something New Yorker whose ordinary life is suddenly shattered when back pain leads to a diagnosis of kidney cancer. What follows is a rollercoaster journey through surgery, experimental drugs, support groups, religious wrestling, and alternative treatments all while David and his wife Sandra embrace the life-changing joy of becoming parents for the first time.
As his prognosis worsens, David clings to one final hope: an experimental therapy crafted by a government researcher. Will it save him or has time run out?
“Tumor” is more than a medical drama. It's a story about:
● Faith and family: how illness reshapes relationships, identity, and priorities.
● Science and sacrifice: honoring the researchers and medical professionals working tirelessly behind the scenes.
● Resilience and reality: confronting the possibility of death while fiercely pursuing life.
Kirkus Discoveries praised the book as “Powerful… epic… gripping.” With elements of mystery and intrigue such as David's pursuit of answers about why his cancer wasn't caught earlier, Wasserman blends realism with urgency, creating a story that is both deeply personal and universally relevant.
